Dorothy's father was Charles McCotcheon Spencer and her mother was Nellie Edson White.  Her paternal grandparents were John Embry Spencer and Laura Ann Dodd; her maternal grandparents were Samuel Walter White and Mary Ann Eliza Boyd. She had a sister named Winifred.  She died due to natural causes or old age.
