William was born in 1843.  William's father was James Douglas Herron and his mother was Rebecca Young.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Herron and Agnes Johnson. He had two brothers and eight sisters, named James, Howard, Jennet, Nancy, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Mary, Margaret, Jeannette and Eliza.  He was the nineth oldest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 84 in 1927.
