James was born in 1836.  James' father was James Douglas Herron and his mother was Rebecca Young.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Herron and Agnes Johnson. He had two brothers and eight sisters, named William, Howard, Jennet, Nancy, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Mary, Margaret, Jeannette and Eliza.  He was the sixth oldest of the eleven children.  He died in 1836.
