Hugh was born in 1801.  Hugh's father was Thomas Herron and his mother was Agnes Johnson. He had six brothers and three sisters, named John, James, Thomas, William, Samuel, Richard, Elizabeth, Jane and Agnes.  He was the fifth oldest of the ten children. He had two half-sisters named Margaret and Mary.  He died at the age of 86 in 1887.
